One way of thinking about this is to teach mathematics using real-life problems as the subject matter. Certainly, arithmetic can be taught using real-life problems as the subject matter. However, in the case of high school mathematics, there are few appropriate subjects. In this study, the Kermack-McKendrick model, which is well known among citizens for predicting the number of people infected with a new type of coronavirus, is considered for use as a teaching material in high school mathematics. To understand this model, knowledge of differential equations is necessary, but many high school students have not yet learned differential equations.
