| 内容記述 | This study analyzes the process by which the degree system was established at Keijō Imperial University—set up during Japanese colonial rule in Korea—primarily using the deliberation records of the Privy Council and related primary sources. The 1920 “Degree Ordinance” (Imperial Decree No. 200) applied to Japanese universities in the home islands and thus lacked institutional provision for degree conferral in colonial territories, including Keijō Imperial University. However, spurred by a petition bill submitted by the Ministry of Colonial Affairs in 1931, debates were held in the Privy Council aiming to extend the application of the Degree Ordinance to the colonies. In that same year, by Imperial Decree No. 268, degree conferral in Korea, Taiwan, the Kwantung Leased Territory, and territories attached to the South Manshu ria Railway was legally authorized. In response, in 1932 Keijō Imperial University established its“ Degree Regulations,” instituting a doctoral degree conferral system in law, letters, and medicine. The system included provisions ensuring academic legitimacy, the strictness of examination procedures, maintenance of character and dignity, and statutes for degree revocation, thereby reinforcing the legal coherence of academic institutions and authority in colonial universities. Through tracing this institutionalization process, the present study clarifies how the Imperial University system developed and how academic authority and intellectual governance were institutionalized within colonial education policy. | |||||||||||
