| 内容記述 | Tetsuzo WADA (1909-99) and Toru HOSHINO (1925-2009) were Japanese poets and scholars of English literature. This paper shows by tracing Hoshino's meticulous criticism of Wada that they were collaborative to place a genre of metaphysical poetry in the modern history of Japanese poetry, in which the genre has been difficult to take root. Wada edited a literary journal called Wan (a gulf) between 1956 and 1999, continuing to write metaphysical poems there by his unique poetics created by his analysis of Herbert Read. Hoshino analyzed Wada's poems carefully and in perspective and made it clear that his poetic theme was to combine the thought of Buddhism (Shinranism) with that of Christianity. Hoshino was then influenced by Wada's poetics after becoming a member of Wan and began also to write metaphysical poems with subtle implications of Christianity. | |||||||||||
