Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 cancer patients, and the data were analyzed qualitatively. As a result, the following categories were identified as the meanings that the patients find in the SHG: 1) acquisition of psychological support, 2) relation to social network, 3) relation to support from others, 4) opportunities for understanding and collecting information about diet therapy, 5) realizing the helper-therapy principle, 6) appetite satisfaction, 7) self-disclosure and freeing the self, and 8) humanistic development.
