Functionally there are many kinds of maeoki, including maeoki for politeness, maeoki that propose themes, maeoki that soften tension at a first meeting, and maeoki that give information to ensure mutual understanding.\n Maeoki can also be analyzed formally. Focusing on where maeoki are used in the overall text structure, I demonstrate that maeoki can be identified in the following five positions in a variety of text genres.\n i) Maeoki can be expressed in a clause ending with the particle ga ‘but’, for example, Mooshiwake arimasen ga, ‘There is no excuse, but’ or Sumimasen ga,‘ I’m sorry, but’.\n ii) A Japanese letter, roughly speaking, consists of four parts, a season greeting, the body of the letter, a conclusion, and an ending. The initial season greeting functions as a maeoki.\n iii) In expository texts, the author may use a self-directed expression like Maeoki ga nagai zo ‘(Your=the author) maeoki is (too) long, I tell you’. These expressions suggest that the preceding text is a maeoki. Because the author references the maeoki explicitly, the maeoki can be identified easily.\n iv) In a response to a yes-no question, the text between the question and the actual answer is regarded as a maeoki.\n v) In texts where after the first theme, a second new (seemingly unrelated) theme is introduced which is later connected to the first (old) theme, the utterances related to the second theme can be regarded as a maeoki.\n This study contributes to research on maeoki that previously focused on clauses ending in ga ‘but’. By taking a broader discourse perspective that includes an analysis of the overall text structure, I demonstrate that maeoki can consist of a multiple of sentences, and their identification and position may vary across text genre.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10002_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"茨城キリスト教大学","subitem_publisher_language":"ja"}]},"item_10002_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"1342-6362","subitem_source_identifier_type":"PISSN"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"小沼, 喜好","creatorNameLang":"ja"},{"creatorName":"オヌマ, キヨシ","creatorNameLang":"ja-Kana"},{"creatorName":"Onuma, Kiyoshi","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"2155","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2023-01-20"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"1-05_Onuma.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"1.1 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"1-05_Onuma","url":"https://ic.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/941/files/1-05_Onuma.pdf"},"version_id":"f23b6098-3f6d-44d7-b841-f992ce91dc84"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"日本語のテキストに見られる様々な「前置き」の認定について","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"日本語のテキストに見られる様々な「前置き」の認定について","subitem_title_language":"ja"},{"subitem_title":"Identification of maeoki ‘prefaces’ in Japanese texts","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"10002","owner":"14","path":["148"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2023-01-20"},"publish_date":"2023-01-20","publish_status":"0","recid":"941","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["日本語のテキストに見られる様々な「前置き」の認定について"],"weko_creator_id":"14","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2024-04-17T06:17:22.623577+00:00"}
