| 内容記述 | In current Japanese Ryookai indicates “consent, agreement (to an offer, proposal).” However,in the Meiji and Taisho Era (1868- 1926), Ryookai meant “understanding.” This paper will discuss the shift in the meaning of Ryookai (from “A”: “understanding” to “B” :“consent,agreement”) based on the analysis of Taiyo Corpus (TC), which contains the articles of the general magazine “Taiyo” published in 1895, 1901, 1909, 1917 and 1925. The analysis of TC and the comparison to a current written Japanese corpus (BCCWJ) conclude that during and prior to the 1910s, Ryookai was used in the meaning “A” regardless of use, as a verb or noun, but after 1920s Ryookai as a noun began to be used in the meaning “B.” | |||||||||
