(1) We have conducted an investigation into the water quality of the vasin of the Abukuma river. From the upper reaches to the lower of the river, ther are basins and valleys alternately. (2) There are steep hills formed of volcanic products on the left bank of the river, and gentle slopes formed of granite on the right bank area. (3) The pH value of the main stream is between 6.8 and 7.2 which sow nearly neutral. Some tributaries, e.g. the Matsu reiver and the Are river, sow from 4.8 to 6.4, which all show acidity. (4) The Electric Condition is between 60 and 120μΩ/cm. It is lower part from the meeting point, they are in the low values. (5) The contens of ions show lower percentages in the upper reach than the lower stream. Each value is as follows: CL=8~37ppm, Na^+=3.8~6.7ppm, Ca^(2+)=1.6~5.2ppm, Mg^(2+)=0.7~3.8ppm. There are roughly the average value of Japanese revers. (6) The NH_4-N, PO_4^(3-) and SiO_2 contents are all in small quantities. (7) DO is between 7.2 and 10.2ppm. It is higher in the upper stream than the lower reach. COD is between 5 and 20 ppm. It is in high level at Koriyama and Fukushima Cities in the middle reach. It is, however, in the low level in the upper and the lower streams. (8) The loads of Cl, Na^+, Ca^(2+) and Mg^(2+) are in the low level from upper to middle streams, in and around Nohonmatsu City, but they increase as it goes down. |
