内容記述 | The author previously reported that a structural syllabus-based textbook, “Minna no Nihongo (Japanese for Everyone),” is used in many Japanese language classes for international residents in communities in Ibaraki Prefecture (Nakayama, 2018). In this report, firstly based on previous research, we discuss the importance of a good mix of activities focusing on language structure and activities focusing on situations and actions in daily life. We analyzed what kinds of situations and actions are covered in the dialogues in each lesson of the same textbook, comparing it with the “Standard Curricula of Japanese Language Education for Foreigners Living in Japan” by the Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō). Based on the analysis, the author proposes the two points below: (1) The dialogue parts cover some essential situations and actions in daily life. However, no dialogue parts cover any emergencies such as calling the police or the fire department; activities for emergencies should be added to the class activities. (2) Some learners may have difficulties with the roleplay tasks because the situations in “Exercise C,” which are very short conversation drills before the dialogue parts, are unclear and the dialogues and “Exercise C” address different situations in most lessons. Therefore, the “Exercise C” contents should be modified for specific situations, or to address the same topics as the dialogues. | |||||
