内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 In the late 18th century, France was defeated in the British-French colonial war, and after a while it was relegated to “a relatively underdeveloped country” compared to the leading Britain in the context of the industrial revolution. What kind of influence did this have on political and economic changes in France?
In the first place, France switched the first policy priority from conventional trade balance to domestic industrial development. Since the end of the 18th century, the French regime had changed rapidly from the Bourbons to the First Republic, to the First Empire, to the Bourbon Restoration, and to the July Monarchy, but there had been no change in the basic policy of protection duty. Meanwhile, the French industrial revolution, which began in the 1810s, made progress in the 1820s in the textile industry such as silk and cotton fabrics, and in the 1830s the textile industry and the heavy industries such as the steel companies developed at the same time.
For the second point, when the mechanization of the factory progressed in the industrial revolution, a large number of poor workers emerged because there was no need for traditional handicraft workmanship. As a result, the problem of social poverty was aggravated, and workers formed “associations” (producers’ cooperatives) and embarked on life protection. Also, in the 1830s and 1840s, the early socialism appeared in conjunction with poverty issues and labor movements. However, severe labor disputes occurred, not at construction sites that had many workers or at large factories in emerging industrial cities, but at small-scale workplaces where tailors worked.
The third point is that in 1847 in France, in addition to the poor crop since the year before last, an overproduction crisis occurred. As a result, not only poor farmers and urban people, but also some of Petit Bourgeois and soldiers of the National Armed Forces, became dissatisfied with the Guizot Cabinet. At that time, rebels against the July Monarchy started a banquet movement in search of electoral system reform. Soon the initiative of a banquet movement came to be held by the Petit Bourgeois, and in 1848 it was transferred to the hands of the people in Paris, especially the laboring masses. Students and workers with the National Army siding with them rose up in rebellion all at once on February 22-24, and the February Revolution succeeded. In addition to the republicans such as Lamartine, socialists such as Louis Blanc also participated in the temporary republican government, but there was a difference in the recognition of “the right of labor” between them and the workers. This was one of the factors by which the Second Republic broke down.
