内容記述 | This paper examines the characteristics of musical behavior particularly focusing on caregivers. The author has previously conducted an observational survey on two- and three-year-old children at a day-care center and reported on the musical behavioral characteristics that were observed during their daily life and play(Aoyama 2014, 2015). These characteristics were analyzed in terms of the motives behind the children’s musical behavior. The results showed that two- and three-year-old children use musical behavior to interact with others. Concurrently, it was found that the caregivers also actively engage in musical behavior when encouraging young children to do the same. In light of this, this paper examines the methods through which caregivers encourage musical behavior in young children. Observations were made of two-year-old children at a private day-care center, K. The observations were conducted on 40 days over an 11-month period between April 19, 2013 and March 17, 2014. As a result of the analysis and discussion of the cases, the behavior of the caregivers was divided into the following six categories: “addressing children,” “empathizing with children,” “explaining circumstances to children,” “encouraging children to act using existing songs,” “encouraging children to act by giving instructions,” and “encouraging children to act using body language.” The caregivers in charge of the two-year-old children used musical behavior to intimately address the children and to empathize with them. Moreover, their musical behavior was used to explain circumstances clearly and to encourage children to take appropriate actions for these circumstances. Plans for future research include examining the characteristics of musical behavior in caregivers in terms of the motives behind their behavior. |
