| 内容記述 | Our study aimed to clarify coping and preventative behaviors used by couples when experiencing stressful events. We used qualitative methods with a focus on the joint interview method (Arksey & Knight, 1999), in which the researcher interviews two participants simultaneously to gain an understanding of both perspectives on the same phenomenon. In this study, we conducted joint interviews with 12 Japanese married couples who had preschool children. We asked about the start of stressful events, ways of coping, and the conclusion of stressful events. Our results described the sequence of coping behaviors for daily marital conflict and the preventative effect of protective buffering and escape-avoidance. We found that the other partner’s response determined the joint process of coping within couples. Furthermore, our findings showed that an avoidant style of relationship-maintenance and compromise was effective in preventing marital conflict. | |||||||||
